Our Legacy

A white church with a tall steeple and a wooden ramp entrance, surrounded by trees.

Our organization is based on the site of Buren Chapel A.M.E. Church, which has been a part of the Herculaneum, MO community since 1908.

Buren Chapel A.M.E. Church strives to meet the spiritual, physical and social needs of the community. A small congregation with the desire to grow our numbers and outreach in the community. With God’s words prayerfully guiding us in our Christian walk, we worship and individually are growing through God’s grace for us.

Our campus includes the last black schoolhouse in Jefferson County.

Herculaneum public school system for black children was established 1927 with the originally building replaced with the present one built in 1951.

After recent renovations, we now hold workshops and other sessions for the community in this same school, continuing the legacy.
